Come join Denise and Kate for our easy-going relaxed birthing classes. Wisdom and tips from 2 practical, down-to-earth ex-midwives, childbirth education offering current information on birth, newborn baby cares, feeding a newborn, and the first 6 weeks for baby and new parent(s).
We teach the 3 'how do I know I am in labour signs'. What do the 3 stages of labour mean? 3 easy ways of breathing for each stage in labour. 3 ways to breathe the baby out gently. Setting up your home/flat for the 1st stage before going to the Birthing Suite. How to prepare for birthing at home. Options like water birth, standing birth and birthing on all fours. What are the Midwife and the Support person roles? When to call your midwife during pregnancy and during your early labour.
A focus on natural pain relief options and positions to support your birthing journey. Add in medical pain relief options and how epidurals work in case it's needed. Postnatal in-patient and support person sleepovers. Complex labour, the NICU baby, Monitoring in labour to caesarean birth and recovery.
We look forward to meeting you and your support person. Class times vary from 6 pm for IN-Person. 7 pm for Zoom. full-day classes are 9 am to 3.30 pm.
We are funded by Tu Ora Compass Health and Te Whatu Ora Capital, Coast, and Hutt Valley all year round.

Who are we? DENISE Garcia, ex-LMC MIdwife of 20 years+ Childbirth Educator, mum of 6; trained Hypnobirth-Midwife-UK. KATE Allan is an ex-LMC Midwife, and mum of 2 boys.
We both completed the Midwifery/Childbirth Educator 8-hour CalmBirth training this year and last year we did the Australian Possum 6 weeks course on the latest researched based feed baby course and baby Sleep needs course

If you feel unwell, think you might be in labour or notice the baby's movements are less in the past 6 hours RING your Midwife IMMEDIATELY or RING Wellington Hospital 04-3855999 or Hutt Hospital 04-5666999 - ask for the Birthing Suite and talk to a midwife on call 24/7.
If you feel Mentally Unwell? Not coping as normal? You or your support person are worried? Please get immediate help. Call the Mental Health Helpline on 1737 Call your GP and ask to speak to the practice nurse urgently- or go to the Emergency Dept at Wellington or Hutt Hospital. You are very important and pregnancy can be challenging, tiring and hormonal changes can affect how you feel each day. Don't do it alone!
